Homemade Breakfast Pizza - Nicolette Kerner

If you haven’t tried Homemade Breakfast Pizza, you are really missing out! This is one of my all-time favorites when it comes to pizza, and something I discovered when I was a kid!

You know those certain school lunches or school staples that every kid has to buy when it’s on the menu, well for my school it was the breakfast pizza. Still to this day I think about how good it was, which leads me into trying to figure out how to recreate it.

Trial and Error…

After a lot of trial and error, I’ve come to love the recipe I’m about to share with you. I decided to take my favorite Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe and combine it with some amazing breakfast staples and BAM! You have yourself a tasty Homemade Breakfast Pizza. It’s so good, you’ll want to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Please note, this recipe is meant for you to make it your own and for you to add your own favorite breakfast staples as well. What I’m saying is, don’t feel like you have to add everything I do, or better yet, feel free to add even more. The possibilities are endless when it comes to this style of recipe! You can also use the pizza dough recipe for other yummy creations as well!

The Best Staple Toppings for Homemade Breakfast Pizza…

  • Scrambled Eggs/Egg Whites
  • Bacon Bits/Turkey Bacon
  • Sausage/Turkey Sausage
  • Chopped Onions
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Cheese Sauce/Queso

To get started, you can use my Homemade Pizza Dough recipe linked here. Once your dough is prepped and in the pan, poke some holes, using a fork, all over the dough. This step is necessary because we need to bake the dough before adding any toppings and we want to prevent bubbling. Set your oven to 500 degrees and bake the dough for about 10 minutes, or until slightly underbaked.

It’s important to note that we are not cooking the dough completely. This is because it will go back in the oven to broil after toppings have been added.

What about the toppings?

While the dough is in the oven, now is your time to prep the toppings of your choice. Since this is a Breakfast Pizza, now would be the time to make the scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, chop onions, etc.

Ingredients needed for Homemade Breakfast Pizza Toppings…

  • Scrambled Eggs
    • 6-8 Eggs/Egg whites
    • Milk of Choice (I prefer Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk)
    • Butter/Oil for Frying Pan
    • Salt/Pepper/Seasoning of your choice
  • Bacon Bits (I used store-bought bacon bits)
  • Sausage (I used Jimmy Dean Brown N’ Serve Turkey Sausage)
  • Onions (I like green onions or white, your preference)
  • Shredded Cheese (I used Reduced Fat Shredded Fiesta Cheese)
  • Ricos White Queso Blanco Cheese Sauce (Of course you can use any kind of Queso cheese sauce but this one is highly recommended)

For things like the bacon, you can feel free to make your own bacon and crumble it, or you can use the store-bought bacon bits. Turkey bacon crumbled on this pizza is a very good option too! Based on your time and preferences, this pizza can be pretty customizable.

Prepare the toppings…

So while your crust is in the oven, start by making the scrambled eggs. This recipe calls for traditional scrambled eggs so go ahead and make them as you would normally do. Use your choice of milk and seasoning combined with the eggs,  and whisk in a bowl. transfer them to a hot greased pan and fold them back and forth until fully cooked.

Note… you don’t want your eggs runny in this case. Try to make the scrambled eggs on the drier side so that they don’t make the crust soggy.

After the eggs are done put them to the side. If you are making the bacon yourself, go ahead and make the bacon. I personally chose to use store-bought bacon bits for this to save time and dishes. Next, if you’re adding sausage, cook accordingly to the packaging. I chose to use Jimmy Dean Brown N’ Serve Turkey Sausage, so it was two minutes in the microwave for ten links. Once those are cooked, cut them into smaller bits for easy sprinkling. Finally, chop an onion of your choice. For the recipe pictured, I used a white onion.

After all the toppings are prepped, take the slightly undercooked crust and add a layer of queso. The queso is going to act as the “Sauce” for this pizza. Then add a light layer of shredded cheese.

Once the queso and cheese are added, layer the rest of the toppings in any order you prefer. I normally start with the eggs first. After the eggs, bacon, sausage, onion, and anything else you chose have been added, sprinkle another light layer of cheese on top.

The Final Bake…

Take the pizza and put it back in the oven until the crust is golden brown. I usually cook it for about two minutes at 500 degrees and then switch to the broil setting to ensure all the cheese is melted and the crust is browned. This part is easier to eyeball rather than using a specific time.

It’s important to note that broiling will brown the pizza pretty quickly so make sure you pay attention. It can be easy to burn something when using the broiling setting! SO DON’T FORGET ABOUT YOUR PIZZA IN THE OVEN!

ENJOY!

Once cooked, pull from the oven let sit for about five to ten minutes before cutting. Cut the Homemade Breakfast Pizza and ENJOY!

Please feel free to comment below if you’ve tried this recipe, I’d love to hear how much you liked it! Don’t be shy to share any other combinations I should try! I’d also love to hear if you have any staple foods from your childhood!

I highly recommend using the Ricos White Queso Blanco Cheese in the can. This has been such a game changer and actually made it taste spot on to the breakfast pizza i was trying to recreate! (You can find this can of queso at your local Walmart.)
