The following Quotes for Comparison are listed below to help provide a new perspective on the way you may view yourself.
Comparing yourself to others is something that we all do. It’s actually completely natural. With the rising pressures of social media and influencers consistently promoting their life’s highlight reel, how could you not fall into the comparison hamster wheel?
What is Comparison?
To figure out how to change your mindset and how you compare yourself to others, you must know what comparison is. Comparison can look different to everyone. You could be scrolling on social media and think, “Wow, I wish my skin looked that flawless.” But really, it’s a filter. You may see your best friend married with her dream career and think, “I’m so far behind. I have to do x, y, and z to catch up.” But actually, your friend feels the same way about you. You might see that person walking and think, “I wish I was motivated enough to walk every day.” But actually, it was their first walk in six months.
Comparison comes in all different shapes and sizes. It’s our minds, or that little voice in our heads, creating some imaginary standard of what we think we should be. It doesn’t measure who we really are, or the trials and tribulations we have endured to get to the point we’re at right now. Comparison is a head game.
Who Compares?
Everyone. Everyone compares themselves to someone or something. Moms, dads, friends, siblings, strangers, athletes, influencers, everyone does it. Intentional or not.
That stud on the field that has all the top stats for the team, they compare themselves all the time. They compare themselves to their old self, that “who they want to be self”, the person standing next to them, who their parents or teammates think they are, and the person they think the coach expects them to be.
Influencers do it too. They compare themselves to total strangers, people who comment on their posts, the media, and their own reputation. The point is no matter who you are, or how “perfect” your life is, it’s human nature to compare yourself to others.
Quotes for Comparison to give you a new Prospective…
- “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” ~ Steve Furtick
- “Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” ~ Tim Hiller
- “To compare yourself to others is to forget the uniqueness of your own journey.” ~Unknown
- “Every minute you spend wishing you had someone else’s life, is a minute spent wasting yours.” ~ Unknown
- “Don’t compare yourself to others. There’s no comparison between the Sun and the Moon. They shine when it’s their time.” ~ Unknown
- “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” ~ Coco Chanel
- “A flower does not think about competing with the flower next to it. It just Blooms.” ~ Zen Shin
What do these quotes mean?
These quotes speak for themselves. It’s pointless to compare apples to oranges. We are all supposed to be different and different is good. God didn’t create us with cookie cutters, he created each individual to be different in their own unique ways. It took nine long months for you to form in your mother’s womb, the person next to you had an entirely different growing experience than you.
Now, don’t get me wrong, looking up to people and admiring others is not wrong. It only becomes a problem when we forget about our own identities and try to assume someone else’s. Sometimes there is a weird stigma that people hold when it comes to being different, but those who are different and follow their unique paths tend to be the happiest.
It’s okay to not have it all together. It’s okay to not know every answer. No matter what you do, there is always going to be someone ahead of you in their journey, and someone behind you. Just like Tim Hiller said, “Don’t compare your beginning to someone’s middle.”
I’m gonna say it louder for the people in the back… “DON’T COMPARE YOUR BEGINNING TO SOMEONE’S MIDDLE.”
So how do I use what I learned from these Quotes for Comparison to fix it?
There are plenty of resources you can use to help strengthen your relationship with yourself. Ultimately, it starts by getting to know yourself. Check out this Self-Love Workbook for Women on Amazon. Workbooks like this can be a great guided resource for you to focus on yourself and build a better relationship.
It’s been said that it can take anywhere from 18 to 264 days to form a habit. I know that’s quite a large range, but again every person is different and learns differently too. If you’re looking to create a daily ritual or habit of self-love, another cool resource I found on Amazon was this Soul Therapy Journal written by an actual therapist. It provides 365 days worth of prompts to help aid in self-exploration, healing and reflection.
Reading can also be a great way to gain new insight and provide you with more tools for your toolbox. Vex King who is a famous Self-Love Author took the time to write Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness. He gives his insight on self-love and overcoming toxicity. He also touches on his own challenges and how he used those experiences to help others. If you’re interested in reading his book, I’ve linked it on Amazon, here.
If you’re not into reading or journaling, you can search for great podcasts and talks that focus on self-love too. Sources like Spotify, iTunes, Google, YouTube, etc. can provide you with some great options to listen to regarding positivity, self exploration, and motivation.
Final Remarks…
If you have to take away one thing from this post, I hope you’ve learned that it’s important to have your own opinions, thoughts, and views. You need to remember that it’s okay to be different, and it’s okay to be in a different place than somebody else.
Try not to compare your journey to anyone else’s, because no matter how hard you try to be like that one person, you can only be yourself in the long run.
Be patient with yourself and know that you are exactly where you need to be right now.
