This post is to help you combat those lingering odors you experience from just going through your daily life!

Home Life Hacks that actually work…
Unlike some things you hear about or see on commercials that make promises that aren’t always kept. There are some truly great products out there that you can use that are easy, affordable, and ACTUALLY WORK!
I have tested, tried, and spent so much money on different products to help combat the dog smell in my home, but there were only a few simple tricks and products that made a noticeable difference.
The products listed below are my tried-and-true home life hacks for odors that just will not go away!
1. The Pura… YOU NEED TO GET ONE!
The Pura device is such a cool product that has changed the game when it comes to household odors! The Pura is a diffuser that you plug into your normal wall outlet and connect to an app on your phone.
This device allows you to control the time of day, which scent is used, the color of the light, and more! The best part about it is that it’s all from the convenience of your phone. The company provides hundreds of different scents so there’s a scent for everyone. The Pura is honestly one of my favorite products so far. I even loved it enough to have two, and will probably be expanding so I can have one for every room!

2. Extra Strength Carpet Odor Eliminator by Arm and Hammer… CHEAP AND EFFECTIVE!
The Arm and Hammer Extra Strength Carpet Odor Eliminator is super affordable but EXTREMELY effective! Ringing in at a brisk $1.73 at Walmart this product is a must-use if you need to get any pet odors out of your carpets.
I’ve used this on the outdoor turf that is lined in my fur baby’s cage and man was it worth it! It’s very easy to use as well, just sprinkle it all over the carpet, or turf in my case, and wait 30 minutes or longer, then vacuum it up!
I’ve used this on my bedroom carpets as well, and my Husband was blown away by how good it smelled! I’ve linked some here on Amazon for your reference! This is definitely a product I always have on hand now just in case you need a quick refresher!
3. Fresh Lavender… A Beautiful and Effective Home Life Hack!
Fresh lavender is so beautiful and a great way to add a little fragrance to your home. This one is for sure one of the more esthetically pleasing home life hacks on this list.
For this home life hack, I purchased some fresh lavender from a local Lavender Farm and used tea bags for loose tea to make small little lavender bags to put throughout our house. The Lavender bags worked especially well in the bathrooms where the steam was able to amplify the beautiful and calming smell.
Tip: When using fresh lavender, crush/break the lavender pieces just a little to make the scent stronger.
Another way to use fresh lavender throughout the home is to purchase an actual lavender plant or bouquet. You can then harvest tall lavender pieces or use the pieces from the bouquet for a beautiful purple display in a flower arrangement or as a dainty bathroom piece. This odor hack can be used for a calming effect and home decor! I love a good 2-in-1 product!
4. Cinnamon Broom… A seasonal Witch’s Secret!
This home life hack was introduced to me by one of my best friends and let me tell you… This is a personal seasonal favorite! The cinnamon broomsticks come in many different sizes and can be placed anywhere in your home you see fit.
It’s important to note that they only come out seasonally. So, if this is one you would like to try, keep a look out for it during the fall season! I’ve seen the large ones at Trader Joe’s and the small 5-inch-sized ones at Home Depot. So, make sure you shop around!
I love this hack because it has two purposes, the first being it makes your home smell like all the best fall scents. It really puts you in the fun fall mood! The second purpose is that it’s actually cute and can act as a fun fall decor piece! Especially if you purchase the large broom, you can prop it up in a corner and call it decor! This one is definitely a personal fall favorite!

5. Crockpot Potpourri … It’s Easy and Universal!
Crockpot Potpourri … yes you read that right! This hack is a lot of fun because you can really switch it up seasonally!
I like to do this during the winter months and use…
- Fresh cranberries;
- Cinnamon sticks;
- Orange slices; and
- A cranberry pineapple juice.
This combo of fruits when heated in the crockpot is EXCEPTIONAL. After the mixture has had the chance to warm up, you take the lid off the crockpot and let it infuse your home. Talk about a nostalgic smell!
Crockpot potpourri is not only easy, but you can use it to create many different scents. I personally use it to create what I like to call a “scent memory” if you will. Meaning, a certain smell can be associated with a specific memory, holiday, or time of year.
The goal is to have my family associate the recipe I listed above with the winter months. That recipe creates the yummiest, most beautiful, and coziest aroma that lingers in your home for days! This is a great hack if you’re going for a nostalgic vibe!

These home life hacks are some of my favorite odor-tackling tips that I’ve come across so far! These are outside of the normal Febreze and candle route and honestly, I think I love them!
