Finding decor on budget should be considered a superpower! If you’re anything like me, home decor is your love language… I mean it’s just so much fun to play with! One of the best times of the year is fall! Seriously, think about it… new decor, pumpkin spice, cozy sweaters, cute boots, free candy, turkey, and stuffing… how can you not love fall?
However, the only thing I love more than seasonal decorating is a good budget! So you can imagine, when I get the chance to combine the two, it’s euphoria! Since fall is here, I figured now is better than ever to share the best tips I have for keeping your decor on budget!

How is it possible to keep your decor on budget??
Well, I’d be lying if I told you home decor isn’t a killer on pricing sometimes. But good news for you, I HATE paying full price for anything. With that said, I’ve done my years of hunting, crafting, and deal searching, just so I can feel like I won the Super Bowl leaving the store. Honestly, it’s better than winning the super-bowl. Who needs a ring when you could have a trunk full of new goodies, and still stay on budget?
Tips Please…
The first tip I can give you for keeping your decor on budget is to BE PATIENT! Don’t just buy the first thing you see in the store because you saw it. You must learn the art of shopping around! Shopping around is one of the best strategies I could ever tell you about. It involves weighing your options, knowing what you saw where and for how much, and comparing and contrasting similar items.
If you take away one thing from this entire post, know that shopping around is one of the best things you could do for your wallet. Trust me your bank account will thank me.
When and Where?
The other tip is to know when and where to do your shopping. Just like food, home decor is seasonal. There are only certain times a year when you can get specific things, so you need to be aware. The reason you need to know where you saw something, is because that ties into shopping around as well. Like I stated before, don’t just buy something right away because you saw it and got all doe-eyed. Other stores will most likely have the same item, and possibly a different price.
If you are in a spot where you feel like you just can’t walk away, pull out your phone and do some price checking.
Craft Your Decor on Budget!
My third tip to help you keep your decor on budget is to make it yourself! Often the beautiful home decor pieces we see in stores can be easily made with some patience and innovation! Depending on the item you are trying to make it can often be MUCH CHEAPER to make it yourself. Another positive to making your own decor is that it matches your style and aesthetic to a tee!
Check out How To Make Pumpkin Carving Ideas Easy! for a great example of a crafted home decor piece. This piece would normally cost upwards of $69.99 and I ended up spending only $25.00 to make it from start to finish. (Note – I was able to shop around and buy all items on sale!) It turned out so good that now everyone wants one!
The Best Places to Shop to keep Decor On Budget!
When I think of keeping decor on budget, five particular stores come to mind…
- HomeGoods
- TJMaxx
- Hobby Lobby
- Dollar Tree
- Amazon
The above-listed stores are great for seasonal decor and great for finding things on sale or for a fraction of the cost! All of my decor pictured in this post are either from HomeGoods, TJMaxx, or is something that I made from using pieces I found at Hobby Lobby or the Dollar Tree!
TIP…
Pro-tip for shopping at Hobby Lobby… they ditched the 40% coupon for non-sale items. They now rotate every other week for what is on sale. One week is floral and wall decor and another could be table decor and seasonal decor. So when you go shopping know which weekend it is to make sure that you are getting the best price! Also, don’t be afraid to ask someone they will tell you if it will be on sale the following week or not!
Decor Placement Tips…
So now that we got all the budget talk out of the way, let’s talk about decor itself! Throughout this post, you’ve seen photos of my fall decor from this year. Some were crafted, and some were store-bought. Below is a list of tips when setting your decor on display!
- Work in 3s – Three vases, three pumpkins, etc.
- Stagger the height and size – Don’t place three of the exact same thing together. For a more professional look, you need to vary the sizes, heights, colors, and textures.
- Reuse pieces – don’t be afraid to pull pieces from other areas and use them in your display. (Example – my cake holder with the beaded Corn.)
- Play around with color and shape – You want the display to look more interesting to the eye.
Last Minute Tips to Keep Your Decor on Budget…
Here is a list of a few more tips I’ve acquired throughout my years of decor shopping on a budget!
- I always find the best-looking and best-priced beaded table runners and placemats at HomeGoods. (Example – the table runner pictured on my TV Stand.)
- To find the best prices shop at the end-of-season clearance sections. However, this can be a double-edged sword because you either get really lucky, or the leftovers are not good enough to buy.
- Start looking for Fall decor in August. Stores will start putting out seasonal decor early, but be careful they may go on sale later on so do your research!
- Add to your collection a little at a time. I often add one little piece here and there because I’ll find a piece that matches perfectly a year later and so on.
- Check the dollar stores EARLY. If you wait too long for the dollar store, everything will be gone or picked over!
- It’s not always a deal when buying from the Dollar Tree. Sometimes you get more bang for your buck elsewhere, but start there first!
Final Thoughts…
This post was a lot of fun to do! With all that hard work, I personally think that shopping should be an Olympic sport… but who am I right! There are a lot of strategies that go into making sure you are smartly spending your money. Don’t be afraid to get crafty and try to make some stuff yourself, who knows you make love it!
Make sure you comment below your favorite fall piece or any home decor tips that you have! As always I love hearing from you and would love to see some photos of your decor! Until next time!
