This Healthy Turkey Chili in Crockpot is so easy to do, that you’ll wonder why you haven’t tried it earlier. This recipe is a light and flavorful take on a traditional chili that makes everyone who tries it go crazy! If you’re looking for a lighter, healthier, and tasty chili this one is for you!
This recipe is a product of throwing a bunch of things in the crock pot and hoping it tastes good. Great news for you, it actually tastes AMAZING! My husband told me that this is the chili we should eat from now on, which quite frankly, I agree.
I have never been a fan of a heavier more robust chili that leaves you feeling groggy after one bowl. Instead, something that gives you all the flavor and makes you feel satisfied without being uncomfortable is the way to go.
Is it really that simple?
YES! This is one of those, “toss it all in and forget about it” types of recipes. It’s perfect for those always on the go and in need of something quick, healthy, and tasty! Plus, one of the perks is that you may have a lot of these ingredients in your pantry already. As always, with most of my recipes, you can customize this to your liking and make substitutions if you desire.
I used ground turkey in this recipe however, if you are someone who doesn’t eat meat you can try it with tofu instead.
What do I need to make this recipe?
There aren’t a lot of things that you will need for this recipe besides the basics. This recipe used the following kitchen tools…
- Saucepan
- Stovetop
- Can Opener
- Wooden Spoon
- Crockpot
- Cutting Board
- Kitchen Knives for chopping
The main tool needed was the crockpot in this case. You can choose to pre-cook the meat or not, that is technically an optional step. I just found that the chili was cooked faster if I pre-cooked the ground turkey meat.
One of my favorite crockpots is the programable one from the Crockpot brand itself. I found the exact crockpot I use on Amazon and linked it here for your reference.
TIP…
An optional tool you can choose to use is the slow cooker liners. THESE THINGS ARE GREAT! I use these to help make clean up even easier, and honestly, they help to keep my crockpot looking brand new. I’ve linked a box of the liners here on Amazon for you to try out.
Those liners are such a time saver. They keep you from having to scrub your elbows off when trying to get the baked food from the sides of your crockpot dish. All you have to do is take the liner and throw it out when you’re done. That’s it. They are honestly worth every penny!

How to make Healthy Turkey Chili in Crockpot…
Start by adding the minced garlic to your crock pot while it’s warming, then take two cans of the Diced Tomatoes in Garlic Oregano and Oil and add those with the minced garlic.
NOTE – Do not drain the cans of diced tomatoes, put the entire can including juices into the crockpot.
The next step is to take the can of White Northern beans (or any white beans you would like) and add those in as well. Again DO NOT DRAIN THE BEANS, put the entire can of beans in the crockpot with the juices!
Next Steps…
While those are heating up with the crockpot take 1 pound of ground turkey and combine it with the entire package of the McCormick White Chili Chicken Seasoning on the stovetop. Additionally, add half of a bunch of green onions chopped to the saucepan as well. Cook until the meat has been nicely browned.
NOTE – There is no added oil or water to the saucepan, it’s just the meat seasoning and onions.
While the meat is cooking continue to add the rest of the ingredients to the crockpot. Continue by draining half of the can of the Golden Sweet Corn. Once half drained, take the rest of the juice and corn and add to the crockpot.
After that, add the can of black beans and an entire bunch of chopped green onions to the crockpot. DON’T FORGET TO RINSE YOUR BLACK BEANS REALLY WELL!
Stir the pot and make sure everything is well combined.
Final Steps…
Once the meat is fully cooked, add all the contents of the saucepan to the crockpot as well. Additionally, add one-half of a 32oz container of Beef broth and stir.
Finally, add the following seasonings to taste…
- Accent Seasoning
- Salt
- Onion Power
- Spice and Herbs Creole Seasoning
Let the crockpot do its job and finish heating and slow cooking the chili. After about an hour the chili should be ready to serve.
Final Remarks…
This is a great chili recipe that can be enjoyed all year round. I love that it’s universal and can be modified to include any meat you choose.
Are you someone who prefers a heavier chili, or one that’s lighter? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to comment on what you think after trying this recipe. Did you make modifications? Let me know!
As always, I look forward to hearing from you!
